I feel like my eating habits have been way off lately. I mean, for a while I had been doing really well. Lots of veggies and protein, minimal fruit, barely any desserts or “cheat” carbs…and I was feeling great! And then something happened, and I sort of…
…fell off the wagon.
One thing I learned when I stopped eating grains (and most dairy, and legumes, and all processed food), is that my body really does react when I go back to eating that stuff that I used to love. Sugar and fried food seems to affect me the most, whereas The Man feels it most after eating gluten or heavy carbs like pizza. The problem is that sometimes the bad food just tastes so darned good that I forget how bad it makes me feel.
That’s why I’ve decided that it’s time for another Whole30 in my near future. I plan on starting next week, once I clean out my pantry of all the stuff I can’t eat during that 30 days. For those of you who don’t know what a Whole30 is – stay tuned! I’ll post more information next week when I start.
So I decided that for today’s What I Ate Wednesday, I would share some of my favorite “bad” meals from the past few weeks. I thought that not only would it be a nice change from the normal (sometimes boring) pictures I post of my healthy food, but it would be a nice send-off to all the things I will not be eating for the next couple of weeks!

Right. I don’t really think that this needs any more explanation. This was the best gelato I’ve ever eaten…and I’ve lived in Europe. Trust me when I say I know my gelato. This was phenomenal gelato.
This carne asada bowl consisted of sticky coconut rice topped with perfectly seasoned strips of carne asada, spicy pico de gallo, sharp mozzarella cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. I want another one just thinking about it.
A hawaiian omu rice omelet. I cannot even begin to tell you how good this was. An omelet filled with rice may sound weird (and a little bit gross), but not this omelet. Gaah. If you ever have the opportunity to try an omu rice omelet? DO IT. You will not regret it.
Blueberry Ale from Oregon. Pretty much self explanatory. I went through way too many of these during my week long vacation in California. Something about blueberry beer + the beach = awesome.
Chocolate and Chocolate Peanut Butter shakes from Ruby’s Diner for The Man and me. Really, need I say more?
Spider roll (deep fried soft shell crab) at my favorite sushi restaurant. I only indulge in this on special occasions, and this particular occasion was my first dinner with Baby Bear. I think that qualifies.
Korean pork belly street taco from Yard House. This restaurant has become our routine stopping point for lunch/dinner/beer whenever I fly out of LAX. This was actually the first time I had pork belly. So worth it.
And I had to get a blackened swordfish taco as well, since I L.O.V.E. swordfish. This was excellent as well…but the pork belly was better.
So, there you have it! Just a taste of some of my favorites. Now don’t get me wrong, when I call these “bad” foods, I don’t mean I didn’t enjoy every single bite of them. I’m just saying that for my body and my lifestyle, I try to avoid overly processed foods, excessive sugar or artificial ingredients, grains, and dairy, and it’s time for a little reset.
What are some of your favorite “cheat” meals?
Has anyone done a Whole30? What are your thoughts?
Love gelato. My favorite cheat meal is Mexican food, as in chips and salsa or pizza. With pizza, I keep it veggie though and if I’m being good (and smart), I make myself eat salad first and then only one or two slices. Found you at WIAW. Good to meet you, I’m Jess. 🙂
LOVE Mexican food! And how funny, I found your site on WIAW yesterday, too! (But I was at work so I couldn’t comment :-)) I’m Becky, nice to meet you back!
I always love to see what people eat! YUM Thanks for linking up at our Gluten Free Fridays party! I have tweeted and pinned your entry to our Gluten Free Fridays board on Pinterest! 🙂
Hope your week is great!
