A Rainy Two Miles to go with my WIAW

So, let me just come right out and say that the  month of July was pretty much a wash for working out. Here I was doing all good (see this post), and then…nothing. Most of it was because I had so much other stuff going on (lame excuse), but part of it was just laziness. Once The Man and I returned from our cross country road trip, we made a pact to get back into our workout routine. So we’ve been getting up in the AM for an early morning run before work. Ugh. This is gonna take some getting used to.

This morning we were up by 0520 enjoying a cup of coffee on the balcony (side note: I never used to drink coffee before a morning run for fear of…dehydration? a rumbly stomach? Who knows. Then a few days ago we tried it and wouldn’t you know that small jolt of caffeine is just what I need to kickstart my run? Who knew!) and then we set off. We were literally three steps from my apartment when it started to rain.

Now if I was on my own, this would have been the perfect time to go back upstairs to my apartment and sleep for 30 more minutes hit the gym, but because I was with The Man? Yeah. He went out to his truck to grab me a raincoat (wasn’t that thoughtful?) and we hit the (wet) road.

Grump.

So as much as I want to complain about it, it really wasn’t so bad. I ended up losing the raincoat five minutes in because I was sweating to death, but we finished 2.13 miles and I felt pretty good about it. (OK, so I was bummed by our slow pace at first, but we shaved one full minute off our splits AND we’re just getting back into running…so I need to remember that when I want to get bummed out.)

Now that I’ve shared my exercise for the day, let’s share what I ate! Here are my eats from Tuesday. As usual I’m linking up with Jenn from Peas and Crayons – many thanks to her for hosting all us foodies once again!

breakfast

breakfast: a buffalo chicken omelet (eggs, buffalo chicken, spinach, onions and peppers all sauteed with some Frank’s red hot), sweet potato hash browns on the side and of course black coffee! This omelet was so good I seriously wanted to cry. I’ve been on a Frank’s kick lately. I’ll eat it on anything.

fruit

Snack: at around 1100 today I snacked on two fresh black mission figs and a donut peach. it’s more sugar than i normally eat at once, and i don’t normally like to snack between meals, but work has been crazy lately and i find myself eating more than usual during the day.

curry

lunch: leftover jungle green curry over  cauliflower rice. this picture is actually recycled from monday nights dinner, but it looks prettier than the tupperware full of leftovers. This stuff was. so. delicious.

dinner

dinner: our original dinner plans got changed when we had to run some errands after work, so we stopped for dinner afterwards. After surveying the restaurants in the area, we decided on Longhorn Steakhouse, because we knew we’d be able to find (mostly) Whole30 approved meals. Take my sirloin steak with sauteed onions, a baked sweet potato, and steamed veggies on the side. The only non-approved ingredient was the butter on the potato which I tried to scrape off as much as I can. Easy! (The only hard part was not eating from the unlimited honey wheat bread sitting on our table. Talk about willpower.)
