Time Management

ephesians

On Friday night, I had the pleasure of attending a Ladies Night Out at my church. During this event, we did a short devotional on Ephesians 5:15-17. We read the verses and discussed some things that really spoke to me. The devotional was on time, and how we use it. We had to look at our schedules and answer a few questions, such as “Does this schedule reveal a wise use of my time, according to God’s principles?” and “What will I be accomplishing for the kingdom of God if I continue to use my time this way?”

I had a hard time with this. True, when I looked at the activities I had penciled in to my calendar, they included my Bible Study group, a Mission Conference at a nearby church, and the Ladies Night. But then I looked at the white space in my calendar – the time where I’m not at work or at a church activity. What do I really do with my time? Most days I can’t really answer that. How often do we get on our computer for the sole purpose of something quick like checking our email or looking up directions, only to found ourselves two hours later, still sitting in front of the screen and having no real memory of where the last hundred twenty minutes went?

I’ve been taking a good hard look at the way I spend my time lately, and I’m not really happy with it. One thing I’ve been contemplating is this blog. I spend a lot of time worrying about what I’m going to post, or the fact that I don’t have a new recipe, or the fact that I have a recipe but I don’t like it…and I’m wasting that time that I could otherwise be using to fulfill God’s will for my life. I’m not sure where I want this blog to go, but the ultimate goal of it is to glorify God. Lately, I don’t feel like I’ve been doing that. I find myself anxious, stressed, and frustrated, and that’s not where God wants me to be. So I’m taking a step back to reevaluate my time and the way I spend it.

Because if I continue along the path I’ve been walking…will I really be where God wants me to be?
