Thanksgiving and Praise and SheReadsTruth

The Husband and I recently started doing a devotional together from SheReadsTruth. Yes, I realize this is a community for women, but I truly enjoy their devotions and this particular one The Husband and I picked (on the YouVersion app on my iPhone) is on Prayer in the Bible and we’ve both been able to benefit from it.

We’re only three days in, but the first few lessons focus on prayers of praise – praising God for all He has done for us. How often when we pray do we find ourselves asking for things?

Dear Lord, please take away my pain.

Dear Lord, please show me your path.

Dear Lord, please get me through this day.

But sometimes, shouldn’t we sit back and take a few minutes to simply thank and praise God?

Dear Lord, thank you for this beautiful sunrise.

Dear Lord, thank you for the blessings you have given me.

Dear Lord, thank you for my family and my health and my job and my home.

I find myself guilty of this a lot. It’s easy in the midst of trials to forget all the blessings I do have – I have a Husband who loves me, a family who loves me, a steady job and income, a roof over my head and food in my refrigerator. But even when I take a second in my prayers to thank Him for these blessings, they are immediately followed with so many requests it’s almost as if I never thanked Him at all. So I’ve been focusing on simply praying with praise and thanksgiving in my heart – no requests, no ulterior motives, just thanks.

The past few days of this devotion reminds us to simply praise and thank God – not only when things are going well, but every. day.

Will you take some time today to simply thank God for the blessings He’s given you?
